Ensembles
quintet
Flute, string trio, and harp form this ensemble, featuring Melina Elbe-Hegenauer (flute), Mark Kagan (violin), Alexina Hawkins (viola), and Stefano Cucuzzella (cello). Our program focuses on suppressed music, with the quintet inspired by a 2022 concert at Stammlager VIII A in Görlitz/Zgorzelec. An upcoming concert is scheduled for October 2024 in Görlitz, combining contemporary music with suppressed music.
Duo T|R
The Duo T/R, in collaboration with British singer Emma Rothmann, is innovative and experimental, moving beyond the traditional “voice meets harp” duo. Our aim is to challenge clichés, dissolve traditional roles, and reinterpret sound ideals. This collaboration began at the Gerhart Hauptmann-Theater in Görlitz.
Our current program, “Vomiting Butterflies,” features the award-winning song cycle “A damned mob of scribbling women” by Laura Bowler, which explores an expressive sonic palette.
Trio Trissturis
Three musicians from three nations come together in this trio: I perform alongside soprano Liga Jankovska from Riga and Bulgarian flutist Sneja Tscherneva-Popova. We met at the Gerhart Hauptmann-Theater in Görlitz.
Our repertoire spans from the Renaissance to French Impressionism, with a special fascination for the music of our home countries, What are our musical roots and how do we bring them together? What musical treasures do we find in the music of our countries of origin? Since our foundation in 2017 we regularly perform in the Upper Lusatia region.
Duo Sophia
In spring 2004, I met flutist Melina Elbe-Hegenauer for the first time as part of the Landesjugendorchester Baden-Württemberg. Since then, we’ve shared a deep friendship that extends far beyond music. In 2014, we founded the Duo Sopia (Finnish: to fit, suit well) to explore original works and arrangements for flute and harp. Melina, who studied in Karlsruhe, Helsinki, and Amsterdam, now lives in Baiersbronn in the Black Forest and works as a freelance musician across Europe.
